The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba
- Handel arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
Yes, it is hard to breathe, but it has been performed many times and it is very satisfying once you get to the end! Both parts are fun to play but you might like to have a stiff drink ready - just don't drink it until afterwards.

The Easy Winners
- Scott Joplin arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
The Easy Winners is my favourite Scott Joplin Rag. It is entertaining for both players and agile in both parts. Play this with a smile on your face (well think it anyway - no discussions about embouchure here!).

The Entertainer
- Scott Joplin arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
The wonderfully wide range of the clarinet lends itself to the Joplin Rags. Performers are kept busy switching between bass line and melody. The leaping around adds an element of fun to the performers' rendition. Grade 6 pupils should have no problem - it is good practice to 'pop' the odd top 'F', and the semiquaver bar will keep them amused.

Fanfare-ish
- Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet - Antiphonal
A brash antiphonal fanfare for clarinets. Play from opposite sides of the stage. For the last few bars you might like to memorise and head towards each other and meet in the middle.

Fireworks Music - Rejouissance and Bourrée
- Handel arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
This duet includes two of the most famous sections from the Royal Fireworks Music. Handel wrote his suite to accompany a celebratory firework display. Originally scored for a wind band which included an outrageous number of oboes and bassoons, it may well have drowned out the fireworks!

Flower Duet (from Lakme)
- Delibes arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
Brought to greater public attention thanks to its use in a British Airways advertisement, this duet sits well in the clarinet's range and is popular with audiences. It is ideal for youngsters to play in school concerts and for examination performances. There are no parts - just play from the score. The Flower Duet is also available in a longer version for Clarinet Quartet and for Saxophone Quartet.

Four Duets from The Marriage of Figaro
- Mozart arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
Mozart on clarinets? Hard to beat! These arrangements from The Marriage of Figaro are equally challenging for both players, fun to play and good for the audience too!

March Mallow
- Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
A spritely, agile march. A good grade 5 standard.

Pieds-en-l'air
- Peter Warlock arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
Beautiful, serene, peaceful music with a dash of "Tabasco" harmonies. The original work is for String Orchestra but it transcribes well for a simple clarinet duet, and although lacking the rich harmonies of the full string ensemble, it is still very effective. There are no separate parts - just play from the score.

Solfeggietto
- C.P.E. Bach arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
With apologies to CPE Bach for yet another arrangement of his Solfeggietto, this is difficult but great fun to play and students enjoy the challenge - but it is very hard (listen to my embarrassing attempt on the MP3 - see if you can do better!). It makes a great encore piece and, unless you are Eddie Daniels, it is much easier to play with two!

Spring in the Air
- Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
A bright, light, spritely duet, full of the joys of a Kentish Spring. A good grade 5 standard.

Two-Part Inventions
- J.S.Bach arr. Alun Cook
Clarinet Duet
Bach's two-part inventions are beautiful examples of his genius, both mathematical and aesthetic, and some transcribe well for clarinets. They are not easy (maybe grade 6 standard) but respond well to practice! They are free! Just print the PDF's |
