Jupiter from The Planets
- Holst arr. Alun Cook
Saxophone Choir
- Soprillo, Sopranino, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos, 3 Tenors, 3 Baritones, Bass and Contra Bass. (Scoring may be reduced to just 12 - SSSAAATTTBBB)
The Bringer of Jollity, certainly for Saxophonists in this challenging arrangement of Holst's gem. Previously arranged for Quartet and Octet, it is expanded here allowing a more vivid interepretation of the original. It will work with just the 12 more usual instruments if you lack the extremes. Mercury and Uranus are also available for Saxophone Choir. Jupiter is also available for Saxophone Quartet and Saxophone Octet

Mercury from The Planets
- Holst arr. Alun Cook
Saxophone Choir
- Soprillo, Sopranino, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos, 3 Tenors, 3 Baritones, Bass and Contra Bass (Optional timpani). (Scoring may be reduced to just 12 - SSSAAATTTBBB)
The "Winged Messenger" flies at high speed (even suggesting Morse Code). This companion piece to my arrangement of Jupiter and Uranus from Holst's Planets Suite is not perhaps quite as hard as it sound at first hearing. Originally arranged for Octet it is expanded in this verson and the extra range of instruments allows a far more vivid interepretation of the original. It will work with reduced numbers if you lack the full paraphernalia, but they do add a new dimension to the piece. Mercury is also available for Saxophone Octet |

Oily Rag
- Alun Cook
Saxophone Choir
- Soprillo, Sopranino, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos, 3 Tenors, 3 Baritones, Bass and Contra Bass. (Scoring may be reduced to just 12 - SSSAAATTTBBB)
Oily Rag is a slippery little number and very challenging at full speed. Originally written for Quartet and then expanded to Octet, it has expanded still further in this incarnation for full Saxophone Choir. It will work with reduced numbers if you lack the full paraphernalia, but they do add a new dimension to the piece. The Oily Rag ia also available for Saxophone Quartet and Saxophone Octet

Uranus from The Planets
- Holst arr. Alun Cook
Saxophone Choir
- Soprillo, Sopranino, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos, 3 Tenors, 3 Baritones, Bass and Contra Bass. (Scoring may be reduced to just 12 - SSSAAATTTBBB)
"The Magician" - Holst's brilliance in developing his four-note "idee fix" and slithering block chords present yet more challenges for the saxophonists. Originally arranged for Octet it is expanded in this verson and the extra range of instruments allows a far more vivid interepretation of the original. It will work with just the 12 more usual instruments if you lack the extremes. Uranus is also available for Saxophone Octet |

Capriol Suite
- Peter Warlock arr. Alun Cook
Saxophone Choir
- Soprillo, Sopranino, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos, 3 Tenors, 3 Baritones, Bass and Contra Bass
Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite was composed for String Orchestra and the movements are written as a set of dances using modal harmonies with some juicy clashes. This arrangement for saxophone choir has been carefully written so that it may be played by as few as 8 players - an octet of 2 Sopranos, 2 Altos, 2 Tenors and 2 Baritones, with all the critical other parts cued. Individual movements may be heard below with score samples. A verson specifically for Saxophone Octet (with optional Bass) is also available.

What! No Cigar?
Alun Cook
Saxophone Choir
- Soprillo, Sopranino, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos, 3 Tenors, 3 Baritones, Bass and Contra Bass
A touch of Havana in this Latin romp. Entertaining for all the players and not technically too difficult but the rhythms are challenging and require excellent ensemble playing. The extreme instruments are optional (Soprillo and Contra) and it could be played without Sopranino and Bass but they would be missed! There is a Saxophone Octet version available but the parts are not interchangeable. |
