Canzona 341 Plus
- Alun Cook
Minimum - A Saxophone Quartet (AATB or SATB) or a Clarinet Quartet (3Bb + BsCl)
Maximum - Eb Cl, 3 Bb Cl, Alto Cl, Bass Cl, Contra Alto, Contra Bass, Sopranino Sax, 2 Sopranos, 2 Altos, 2 Tenors, Barintone, Bass Sax. Canzona 341 Plus is an expanded version of my original octet (see above) with extra parts for additional instruments. It was designed to be performed by a combined Clarinet Quartet and Saxophone Quartet, but could also be performed by either ensemble as a stand-alone piece. The notion behind the work was to entertain a clarinet ensemble who enjoy the more sedate "classical" repertoire, whilst the saxophonists would rather be "Jazzing it up", and so the two ensembles have their wish within the one piece. Although it works best with both quartets combined, independent performances are quite possible. United performances should be played antiphonally and some costuming might be add to the fun with the clarinets in formal attire, with those layabout good-for-nothing saxophones dressed in more hippy gear.

El Clarinete Rifirrafe
- Alun Cook
4 Bb Clarinets, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone and Bass Clarinet (optional Baritone Saxophone)
This piece is a feature for the principal clarinettist in the ensemble, and the part is demanding. The accompanying parts are not too hard. Scored for Single Reed Ensemble, namely 4 Bb clarinets, Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones and a Tenor, with optional Baritone Saxophone to cover the Bass Clarinet part). This scoring was requested in the commission but if you run a single reed ensemble and would prefer a variation on this format, do please let me know.

Up and About
- Alun Cook
4 Bb Clarinets, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone (opt.) and Bass Clarinet
Up and About (formerly known as Topsy and Biggles) is pure entertainment with some fast fingering for the clarinets. A Rondo with contrasting sections which is not too hard but there are some challenges for the clarinets. The Tenor saxophone is optional but it adds depth. There is also a Baritone Saxophone part available which doubles the Bass Clarinet.

Twisty Turny Thing
- Alun Cook
4 Bb Clarinets, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone (opt.) and Bass Clarinet
A piece in swing style to keep your clarinets and saxophones amused. The Tenor Saxophone is optional but there is no 'easy' clarinet part as the swing rhythm makes all the parts reasonably demanding.

Jezzanova
- Alun Cook
4 Bb Clarinets, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone and Bass Clarinet
A friend of mine was bemoaning the lack of material for "Single Reed Ensemble" so I have written this piece as, hopefully, the start of many. Whilst not intended as an "educational" piece, the 4th clarinet can be played below the break. If you would like variations in the scoring of "single reed" pieces, do let me know so I can write to suit peoples needs. Although this piece is quite easy, I intend some more challenging repertoire.

A Winter's Tale
- Alun Cook
Single Reed Ensemble - for 3 Bb Clarinets, 2 Alto Saxophones and Bass Clarinet
Soothing music to lull your children to sleep, but like all good stories there are moments of intrigue and suspense. This is the original scoring for 3 Bb Clarinets, 2 Alto Saxophones and Bass Clarinet although I have it in mind to add words as a Christmas carol. The individual parts are not hard but they are quite independent at times. Listen to the MP3 to hear a performance.
